Our Story

TSP was established in 2020 during the height of the COVID pandemic. Elective office visits, therapy sessions, and surgeries were postponed in order to limit exposure and conserve medical resources. Only patients with true emergencies, urgent conditions, or severe illnesses were being managed by the healthcare system. Other patients frantically searched the internet for answers or scheduled virtual zoom meetings with their providers. People from our community literally started walking up the driveway to my home, requesting assistance with their musculoskeletal injuries. I quickly found myself writing rehab programs and my garage turned into a makeshift rehab studio in order to help my friends and neighbors.

Like most people, my hours were cut drastically despite being considered an "essential" healthcare professional, working in surgery at our local hospital. I started thinking, "How can I support my family, utilize my skills, and also provide a service to my community that doesn't already exist?" The answer: True Sports Performance. As a Licensed Athletic Trainer, I'm legally able to evaluate, treat, and rehab physically active people. In my 17+ years as a professional, I have worked with hundreds of professional athletes, in both the training room doing manual therapy, and the weight room doing rehab progressions. My career in sports medicine was well established, and I was eager to help my community. So, in December 2020, we took a leap of faith and moved TSP into a physical location, with great visibility, on one of the busiest streets in Detroit Lakes. To this day, TSP is the only sports rehab facility in a 50-mile radius of Detroit Lakes, MN.

Our primary focus at TSP is bridging the gap between the physical therapy done in the clinic and the actual return-to-sport. This late stage of the rehab process is critical for a safe return to competition and to prevent re-injury from occurring. This continuation of care is not only a benefit to you as the athlete, but also to your physician and PT by improving their patient outcomes. We are happy to call Detroit Lakes home and proud to serve the surrounding lakes area community.
